The first step is to decide if you need an Air cooled or Water cooled unit:
Q
Does your room have a place to vent the hot air?
A
Portable air conditioners will create hot air that needs to be ducted out of your server room. Our hot air exhaust kit is frequently attached through a suspended ceiling to remove this hot air. (if NO, you must use a water-cooled a/c or put the a/c outside the room and duct cold air in).
Q
If yes, does the air above your ceiling circulate through your building A/C unit?
A
Once the hot air has been ducted into the ceiling, it needs to have a way to escape. (if NO, please skip next question.)
Q
Does your building A/C run 24/7?
A
If the building A/A does not run 24/7 the air above your drop down ceiling will build up and force it's way back down into your room. (if NO, please answer next question)
Q
Is there 4 or more feet above your ceiling?
A
If the air is not being cooled through your building A/A unit, the hot air will need a place to be exhausted.
Q
Is your server room firewalled (concrete or sheetrock past the suspended ceiling)?
A
If your server room is firewalled, there will be no way for your hot air to escape. You will need to duct the hot air out of the firewalled area.
Q
There is a vacuum being created; where will you get air to replace it from?
A
Because these units blow air out of the room, there will be a vacuum. Often people will put a vent into the server room door to allow air into the room. If this is not an option, please look into our Condensor Return Plenum to draw air from a different source. IF there is no way for the air to get out of your hot area, you may want to look into a water cooled unit:
